| Pocklington Brickmaking - Observations & Comments |
|
| John Nottingham has given his kind permission to place this article on the website. John and his cousin were both born in Haxby and are descended from the owners of the two largest brickyards there, 10 acres in total. The two big clay pits are reputedly up to 40' deep. John has researched the brickmaking of the Pocklington area following the discovery of his namesake in the 1879 trade directory on this website, who was a brickmaker.
