Group at the Wire Bridge

“Wire” Bridge – c 1910

We don’t have a firm date for this and unfortunately no one on it has been identified but it has to be one of the best Bishop Wilton group photos in existence. We have been told that people gathered at the Bridge on Sunday so it might not be a special occasion.

The Cross Keys Inn (with a sign over the door) can be seen in the background, left of centre. There is a poster for the Pocklington Flower Show on the wall of W.L. Fishers to the right. The Fishers frontage was changed around 1912, so this photo probably predates that.

One interesting feature is the hole in the wall to the right of the man standing in the background. It must be for a dog or even geese to get in and out!

What an array of headgear!
