| Mary Harrison's lodging house |
|
| This is Mary Conrey Harrison's lodging house in Union Street in about 1942. She lived to be 100, and these are some of her family . Note the street gas lamp . Ken Durkin relates the tale about himself, his father and his brother going to check if the street lights had come on. If not, a good 'kick' on the post usually brought them on. If this did not work then his dad had a little ladder which he climbed up and re-lit the pilot light, or changed the mantle. Clare Evans is mother to Lilly and told Ken she got free Cinema tickets from Mr Grant. Photograph and information kindly supplied by Ken Durkin.. |
